The Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) issues a license to the person engaged in the business related to food. The Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 strictly prohibit a person to carry any food business without obtaining license from the department. Hence, any person intending to engage itself into any business related to food is mandatory to have FSSAI License/Registration. This registration is generally called Food license. There are three types of license which the department grants: basic Registration if the Turnover is not more than 10 Lakh per year, State License is the Turnover is not more than 2 crore per year, and Central License if the Turnover is more than 2 crore, depending on turnover and area of business. The application can be made online to the department, though the government’s fees is to be paid either online/offline depending on the state.
